How to do IT – and focus on your business
“IT… not a space everyone feels comfortable and confident in…. And that’s ok 👍”
I’d like to thank my dear friend Rebecca Brooks of Tip the Balance for those words; she used them recently at the start of a Simon Summary, or mini review. In doing so she managed to get into one sentence, something that’s at the heart of what I do.
There is another saying “you do you” which also steps the same way. I really enjoy the people I work with. If you know Becca, you’ll know she’s a fantastic person. I’ve listen to her speak as Dr Brooks and she’s opened my eyes in minutes, unravelling years of food confusion. As part of the Clinic Without Walls team I’ve seen her drop the breadcrumbs that can lead to a better life. We’ve shared steps as she’s lead Wellbeing walks. She is a hugely intelligent and capable person, who if she needed to could do all she needs to in IT – but her skills and heart are elsewhere.
Just as a civil pilot is hugely skilled in flying a plane, and we like to see him flying the plane, and don’t expect to see him servicing the engine or putting air in the tyres. Similarly seeing my customers flying their businesses, I admire their skills. Hearing them chart their destinations, and plan the future, I admire their aspirations and respect their decisions.
Where someone’s skills and vision are so valuable to the business they are building, it is an honour to help! Setup email, recommend security, upgrade computer systems, 365, install WiFi, talk telecoms, backup, review data, plan new sites, cyber shopping to satisfy business needs and support growth. My services become small cogs for bigger clocks, “and that’s ok 👍” … actually it’s more than ok, working with the people I work with is a privilege.
